As part of the actions promoted through the Ocosito Basin Technical Roundtable, Grupo HAME participated in the launch of reforestation programs with the assistance of authorities and different sectors that actively participate in the conservation of the basin. This reforestation day was carried out within the framework of Arbor Day, which is commemorated on May 22, on the Vendejo farm, planting 300 trees of native species, such as Madre Cacao, Matilisguate, Conacaste and Mahogany. Reforestation for the recovery and conservation of the basin is one of the commitments of the companies that participate in the Technical Roundtable. In that sense, by 2021 the companies that make it up will plant 100 thousand trees of native species. It is worth mentioning that between 2016 and 2020, Grupo HAME, Agroaceite, Banasa, Ingenio El Pilar, Magdalena and the Palo Gordo sugar mill have planted more than 206 thousand trees in the basin, equivalent to about 100 hectares, which have become new forests. Reforestation actions aim to promote conditions that favor water recharge, create barriers to prevent soil erosion, as well as generate spaces that encourage biodiversity, since forests are habitats for different species.
